Sherry Fitzgerald kicked off the new year well with an auction of about 30 acres of land near Donoghmore village, about 16km north of Blarney, Co Cork.

The property ended up being offered in two lots at the auction on January 28 in the Blarney Castle Hotel: Lot 1 comprising the 28.5 acres of land; and Lot 2 being composed of a dwelling house and outbuildings in need of refurbishment on half an acre.

There were four bidders on Lot 1, who put in 12 bids in a brisk burst of offers that took the price to a final figure of €400,000. Representing just over €14,000/acre, this was a strong price that exceeded the expected figure of €350,000, according to Sheila O’Flynn of Sherry Fitzgerald Auctioneers in Cork.

For the second lot, the expectation was in the region of €20,000 but this property proved to be more desirable still, with two bidders competing for ownership, making 12 bids until the hammer came down at €45,000.

In all, expectations were exceeded to the tune of approximately €75,000. A good start to the year is half the work.
