The new contract begins formally this Thursday. Town of Monaghan is to supply Aldi stores with two-litre and three-litre milk products, made from 100% Republic of Ireland-farmed milk, and carrying the National Dairy Council logo.

The milk products will be sold under Aldi’s Clonbawn brand. The appointment was made following a recent tender process.

Aldi’s group buying director, Colin Breslin, said: “Our commitment to our customers is that 100% of our Clonbawn fresh milk range sold at our Irish stores is sourced from farms in the Republic of Ireland. We are delighted to announce that Town of Monaghan Co-op Ltd will now be supplying Irish milk to our stores.

“The milk will be 100% sourced from Republic of Ireland farms, packaged in Monaghan and carry the National Dairy Council logo. Our business is developing at an exceptional rate in Ireland, and as it continues to grow, there will be more and more opportunities for Irish companies like Town of Monaghan Co-op Ltd to work with us.”

Town of Monaghan will supply nine Aldi stores initially in the north-east of the country, including Aldi’s new Carrickmacross store which is due to open on Thursday. The co-op has partnered with Aldi for over four years, supplying a number of yogurts in Aldi’s award-winning Irish yogurt range. An Aldi spokesperson said that all of the milk on sale in its 108 Irish stores is 100% sourced from Republic of Ireland farms.

Aldi has tripled its annual spend on Irish products over the past five years, helping maintain over 22,000 jobs across the food industry.

Since 2008 Aldi has almost doubled the number of Irish suppliers it works with. Over 50% of Aldi’s supplier spend is with Irish suppliers, producers and manufacturers.
