Beef, bulls, butchers and biodiversity will be the theme of the conference which will feature a series of lectures on the Saturday by various experts in their field.

A field trip has been arranged for Sunday with John Feehan to the high biodiversity grassland of the Shannon-Athlone, Co Offaly region.

Regina Sexton, secretary, said the society is a group of academics from across third level institutions interested in the history of Irish farming (and fisheries to an extent).

The Society has invited award-winning Kanturk butcher, Jack McCarthy, to address the conference.

It believes the theme of the conference is timely given discussion around the future of beef and dairy production in Ireland.
