Galway and Tipperary farmers claim top prizes in co-op’s milk awards

Farmers from Tipperary and Galway have taken the top two prizes in the Arrabawn Co-op Quality Milk Awards for 2014.

Eoin Toohey, a dairy farmer in Cullenwaine, Moneygall, Co Tipperary, was presented with the overall award at the co-op’s AGM in Nenagh. He was judged the winner in the ‘250,00 litres or more’ category. He farms 91 hectares and has a herd of 113 Friesian cows with an average yield of 5,500 litres per cow.

The winner in the ‘250,000 litres or less’ category was John Fox, of Oranmore, Co Galway. He farms 34 hectares and milks 35 Shorthorn cows with an average yield of 6,000 litres per cow.
