The danger of slurry gas on farms has been highlighted in the Dáil by Labour TD Derek Nolan, who questioned Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney on the issue.

Mr Nolan asked if any advances had been made regarding farm safety in relation to the agitation process for slurry in view of the number of deaths associated with it.

Mr Coveney said the farm safety message last year was entirely focused on safe slurry handling. The message conveyed was that “one lungful of slurry gas can kill”.
