Local bid takes prize at winter auction

It may be November, but the pull of the auction room remains strong with another positive result in the Macroom area last week.
Local bid takes prize at winter auction

Killian Lynch of Killian Lynch Auctioneer offered a 60-plus acre farm at Ballyverane, Mac-room, Co Cork, at auction in two lots and the entire.

And the executor’s sale carried an overall guide of €600,000 prior to auction, but realised €630,000 in total and was sold for that amount. The purchaser is a local farmer and other bidders included solicitors acting in trust.

The property, which includes modern farm buildings, had about 10 acres within the town boundary and for this reason, it was initially offered in lots. However, while there were bites for the smaller portion, the remaining 50 plus acres went unbid. At which stage Lynch offered the entire to the room and the auction took off, with an opening bid of €390,000 on the entire. The auctioneer then reverted to lots again and Lot A, the ten acre portion, rose to €120,000 and Lot B made €450,000 and the entire was then offered at €570,000 and was bid up to €600,000 and was put on the market and knocked down at €635,000.

Lynch has also listed a 23 acre parcel of forestry land at Farranmareen, Enniskeane, which has already garnered local interest, he says.

The land comes with 12 acres of forestry and the remainder is clear felled and may appeal to those looking to turn it back to grazing ground, he says (if other suitable planting ground can be found to replace it, as per grant aid rules). The property is on the market with a guide of €150,000 for the entire.
