MEP: CAP payment inspectors need training on mental health issues
The Ireland East MEP has written to Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney in his role as the head of the EU Court of Auditors to warn about the serious mental health consequences for some farmers arising from CAP farm inspections.
“I am perplexed and disturbed by the number of farmers deeply affected by both announced and unannounced farm inspections,” said Ms McGuinness. “These inspections are necessary. However, very often such inspections give rise to undue stress and worry for farmers and their families.
“It’s time account be taken of the significant impact such inspections have on farmers, many of whom are isolated and in fear of losing part or all of their single farm payment — which in many cases amounts to losing their entire income.”
