Private lake on 28 acres angling for better offer
A very unusual property is on offer in Bandon at the moment on behalf of the executors of the Keyes McDonald estate. The sale, though ERA Paddy Murray and Co, Bandon, is of a 25-acre lake at Castlelack, which is just off the Bandon-Macroom road.
The vast stretch of water was created when farmland was dammed for a corn mill by the Keyes family in 1850, and house and field systems still exist underneath, says Paddy Murray, which might make it an interesting place for divers, if visibility was good.
The property might suit as a commercial/leisure buy, he says, as there are trout and eel in the lake, and it has a central island, man-made, and the lake would allow some boating or even skiing.
Overall, there are 28.5 acres on offer, he says, including laneway access from the road and about two acres of very good quality land. It might also be suitable for a residence, he says.
The lake is just outside Bandon town, and there is an offer of €70,000 at the moment, but the agent is still inviting further offers in this private treaty sale.
* Meanwhile, in the same estate, a 26-acre, non-residential holding, is also close to final offers at Lissarourke, Enniskeane, and offers a great opportunity for adding land to an existing holding, says Murray, of the property which is one block and laid out in a mix of pasture and stubble. Level, south facing, and very good quality land, it’s under offer at €250,000, but is expected to make €270,000. The sale will come to a head shortly, he adds.
The sale of another farm of the same estate is close to completion, and is expected to be sale agreed shortly.
There is consistent demand for land around Bandon, it seems, especially in easily underwritten blocks.
