LEADER firm ‘may wind-up’

The Board of West Limerick Resources says it will be forced to wind up the company if the Government’s Putting People First proposal to align the local government and local development sectors is implemented as currently presented.

The community development partnership company says it would have to wind up because it would not be in a position to apply for the next rounds of EU LEADER funding and local and community development programme funding.

Since its establishment in 1993, the company has administered over €18m in development funds to support projects from education supports, to community enhancement projects and enterprise development.

As part of its effort to have the community’s voice heard in discussions on the Putting People First proposals, West Limerick Resources has organised public information evenings which continue this evening at 7.30pm in the Glorach Theatre, Abbeyfeale; on Monday, in the Rathkeale Community Centre at 7.30pm; and on Wednesday in the Desmond Complex, Newcastle West, at 8pm.
