Stainless steel clamps for water-pipe repair will last for life
Clamps, for repairing water main pipes, and a squeeze-off tool are part of the range from the UK subsidiary of Plasson. An Israeli company, Plasson, provides solutions used in more than 80 countries for connecting polyethylene (PE) pipe.
The stainless-steel clamps are suitable for immediate repair to water main pipes, and are easy and quick to use, and cost-effective, while designed for maximum service life.
In fact, many users leave them in place as a permanent repair.
The clamps’ waffle-type seal ensures optimum repair of pipe that has a corroded surface (they can also be used on lead or copper piping), or is in good condition.
The clamps are tightened with captive bolts.
The hexagon bolt head is held in a recess to allow single tool tightening of the clamp, and it does not turn in the socket of the clamp shell.
A squared shank prevents the bolt turning when the nut is tightened.
The clamps are designed to be assembled on the main, without pipe cutting.
Time can be saved by using them on live mains, while the water is still running — if you don’t mind getting wet.
The design reduces the size of excavation needed.
According to Herron’s, the most popular of their wide range of clamps are for the half- and three-quarter inch pipes used commonly on farms, and these 21-25mm clamps cost €11.45 each.
Their small-clamp range goes to 60-65mm, which cost €23.35 each.
The squeeze-off tool stops the water in a pipe, for example, in order to allow repair further along the pipe.
According to Herron’s, their most popular small clamp is for half- to one-inch pipes, and the retail price is €62.20.
The tool can be loosened later, leaving the pipe undamaged.
