Schools and colleges, farmers, government organisations, councils, community groups and private landowners are being asked to join the One Million Trees in One Day movement, launched by The Forestry Foundation (INFF), with Green Belt Forestry, None So Hardy Nurseries and Payphone Productions.

The project needs about 1,000 acres in Ireland, north and south, to plant the trees, on a date yet to be decided between late November and March.

Trees are free, but donations are gratefully received by the charity, not-for-profit project. Generous donations of land from State and private landowners have been received.

Between 10 and 50 trees are on offer to every farm in Ireland. The long term aim is continuous cover forestry — where woodlands are maintained with an uneven aged and often mixed species structure, selected and harvested when required.
