There is very little change in the prices quoted for lambs at the factories this week, with the tight supply situation putting market pressure on processors.

Most of the processors offer a base price of 520 cent/kg (186p/lb), with the bonus added for quality. The exception is the Co Kildare based Moyvalley Meats, where the quote is an all-in 530 cent/kg.

At the marts on Monday, the trade was similar to the previous week, with butchers paying up to €73 over, and the factory lots selling for up to €68 over.

At the marts, there were 350 head on offer at Fermoy on Monday, for a trade similar to the previous week. Butchers paid €112 to €131/head, equivalent to €65 over to €73 over. The factory lots sold for up to €108 per head, or €68 over.

There were 670 head on offer at Kilkenny Mart. There was no change in the trade from the previous week. Butchers paid up to €127/head, with the prices ranging from €66 over to €72 over. The factory agents paid up to €110/head, ranging from €55 over to €68 over.

The trade in the UK remained firm over the past week. By last weekend, prices across Great Britain were the equivalent of 549 cent/kg (196p/lb).

In France, the trade remained solid, with limited numbers of Irish grade 1 lamb reportedly making up to 558 cent/kg (199p/lb) for most of the week. Increased Spanish lamb supplies in France are yet to have any impact on the trade; supplies from the UK have tightened.
