Free-draining 83-acre farm seeks bids of over €300,000

This farm near Bantry, Co Cork, is well drained and ideal for grazing cattle.

The late owner of this mixed, 83-acre farm at Tooreen South, Coomanore, Bantry, was very fondly regarded in the community.

That’s according to Denis Harrington of Harrington Estates who says James Cronin was a founding member of the Bantry Agricultural Association and was well known in the area.

His farm was geared down in the last while and is in need of work, but there are some very good acres with the property, says Harrington.

“It’s a farm that’s been asleep for a number of years and is in need of some investment, but you can clearly see there is a section which could be turned into rich, wholesome ground.

“With a little bit of time the farm could be turned around. It has sloping, well drained grazing land and in this part of West Cork, free-draining is music to the ears,” he says.

The old residence is at the centre of the farm and is a modest, traditional farmhouse in need of attention too: it’s set in the centre of the land and comes with a range of old stone outbuildings.

With most of the executors based in America, the farm will be sold, says Harrington, and he’s seeking offers in the region of €300,000 to €350,000 for the private treaty sale.

The farm is lacking in road frontage, but it’s significant acreage should not be lost on local farmers.
