Wooded 70-acre waterside site at Castletownshend guides at €300,000

THERE are precious things in the world for which the mere act of acquisition is enough — the beauty for beauty’s sake of jewels and paintings, though not of practical use.

In the same vein, but more down to earth, there is a 70-acre parcel of land at Castletownshend, near Skibbereen in west Cork— a wooded, waterside site, very beautiful, in a very beautiful place, but probably quite useless.

The land has no agricultural value, and even less site value and acquisition here is likely to be on the basis of owning a precious piece of waterside ground.

The 70-acres in one block includes lots of mature beech trees and a mix of wild Irish woodland and sub-tropical flora and fauna, according to selling agent Charles McCarthy and Co. Guide price is €300,000. There are roads and pathways through the property, with a mile of coastline onto Castlehaven Harbour, according to Maeve McCarthy, who describes the land as a delightful and unique holding.
