All-in 450 cent/kg for factory lambs
While some processors have reduced prices by as much as 5 cent/kg, most prices quoted by processors are similar to last week’s.
An all-in 450 cent/kg (160p/lb) is quoted by Moyvalley Meats. The neighbouring Kildare Chilling and the Kepak plants at Hacketstown and Athleague offer 440 cent/kg (157p/lb) plus bonus for quality, while Dawn and ICM are on 435 cent/kg (155p/lb), plus the bonus.
In the marts, the trade was generally steady on Monday, with up to €64 over paid by butchers for lambs.
There were 500 head on offer at Fermoy Mart on Monday. Butchers paid €95 to €118/head for lambs, equivalent to €47 over to €64 over.
The factory lots sold for €84 to €94/head, or €40 over to €49 over.
At Kilkenny Mart on Monday, there were 1,050 on offer. Butchers lambs sold for €45 over to €56 over, and factory lots for €45 over to €55 over. Stores ranged from €31 over to €52 over.
In Britain, the trade eased slightly in response to increased supply, and somewhat subdued market demand in France. By last weekend, the prices had fallen by around 5c, to 425c/kg.
In France, prices for the limited volumes of Irish grade 1 Spring lamb on offer were reportedly holding at up to 445/kg by the weekend, even though supplies from Britain remained strong.
