Top lamb price stays at 450 cent/kg
Prices for this week are unchanged.
Moyvalley Meats continues to quote an all-in 450 cents/kg (160p/lb), while the rest of the operating factories are quoting 440 cents/kg (156p/lb) plus a bonus for quality.
In the marts on Monday, the trade was either steady or a shade easier than last week. There was a steady trade at Fermoy Mart on Monday, where butchers paid €105 to €117/head, equivalent to €51 over to €57 over.
Factory lamb prices ranged from €76 to €95/head, or €39 over to €40 over.
There were 1,350 head on offer at Kilkenny Mart on Monday, where the trade was easier by as much as €5/head. The butchers lambs sold for €45 over to €55 over, and the factory lots ranged from €44 over to €48 over.
Store lambs sold for €35 over to €58 over.
Trade in Britain improved over the past week, in response to lower market supplies of lamb, and exchange rate movements.
By the weekend, prices had increased by around 10c to 430 cent/kg (153p/lb).
This impacted on the market on the continent.
In France, with strong supplies from Britain, and demand reportedly remaining weak for imported product, due to French lamb still being on promotion, there was some pressure on prices. Limited volumes of Irish grade 1 lamb on the market were reportedly making up to 445c/kg (159p/lb) by last weekend.
