Haghill House tops Hodnett Forde sales
The first and most substantial, Haghill House near Bandon in Co Cork, is now signed, sealed and delivered at close to the €1 million mark to a local buyer.
The property was withdrawn after an auction which took place during the worst of the frosty weather, but which pulled a large crowd.
There were three bidders at the time, but when the property failed to reach the reserve it was withdrawn, and private treaty negotiations ensued.
The buyer, who remains anonymous, is believed to be a local businessman with considerable property interests.
It’s likely the farmhouse will be restored and the land let in the interim.
The price is just shy of the original guide price of €1 million — a positive result for the 91-acre property.
The house has not been lived in for over 20 years and the land, while excellent, was also in need of attention.
Meanwhile, the agent is now looking for another Bandon area farm for disappointed underbidders.
Hodnett Forde Auctioneers have also tied up the sale of another west Cork property, at Burrane, Bandon, where a 37-acre holding made just under €11,000 per acre.
