Farming ‘as Gaeilge’
The story of how he decided to go organic is told in Feirmeoirí, a new TV series on TG4 starting next Sunday night at 9.30pm.
It follows the fortunes of four farmers, including Padraig Ó Scanaill, a liquid milk producer on the outskirts of Dublin.
After the making of the programme, Noel realised that Padraig’s grand-parents came from Cúil Aodha and Baile Mhic Íre, and that Padraig is a second cousin of Noel’s wife Mairead — but they haven’t met up yet. Padraig is also the grand-nephew of Donal Ó Scanaill, the last man to run Cúil Aodha post office.
Sheep farmer Joe Joyce on the Mayo-Galway border and Co Kildare pig farmer Pat Ó Flaharta also feature in the Feirmeoirí series.
