Terelton top stock judging competitions
At the annual conference in Wicklow, the club’s Caroline O’Sullivan won the senior beef event, and Noel McSweeney won the under-23 beef stockjudging.
Dermot Dunne from the Durrow-Abbeyleix club won the sheep stockjudging.
Runners-up were John Forristal from Cushionstown-Terrath club in Co Wexford in senior beef, Nora Cushen from Portlaoise in under-23 beef, and Anna Doyle from Ballycoog in Co Wicklow in sheep stockjudging.
They have now won places on the 2011 Macra prize-winners overseas trip.
Maria Foley of the Dungarvan, Co Waterford club, was named AIB Best New Macra Member. From a dairy farm, she has a keen interest in agriculture. Encouraged by a friend to attend the club AGM, she was thrown in at the deep end by being elected secretary, and has organised several hugely successful events, motivated members to become more involved, and helped increase club membership.
Maria works as a community care audiologist with the HSE. She is an All-Ireland medal holder in tug-of-war and other interests include travelling, socialising, and GAA.
Portlaoise won the AIB Club of the Year title. The win was worth €1,500, and the runner-up Athboy and Ballycoog won €500 each.
The team from Camross in Co Laois narrowly defeated the team from Bantry in Co Cork to take the female NDC GAA-seven-a-side title. The Camross men won runners-up prize in the men’s football, narrowly defeated by the team from Kinsalebeg in Co Waterford.
The Know Your Agriculture quiz was won by the Rathdowney team from Co Laois. In second place was the team from Kilmacthomas, Co Waterford.
