Show time for east Cork guild

MEMBERS of Shanagarry guild in east Cork enthusiastically entered many sections in the Ballycotton Show on August 15. Their efforts were rewarded and the ladies carried home plenty of prizes.

Eileen Kenneally won second prize in shellcraft for her decorated mirror and Mary Garde won a first and three seconds in a variety of competitions.

Sheila McGrath won a second for her brown soda. Mary Hennessy was awarded a first for her cross-stitch fire screen and for her crochet collar and scones.

Rosalie Dunne achieved five firsts – in raspberry, blackcurrant and rhubarb jam, malt barley and marmalade and won second for gooseberry jam.

Eileen Fitzgerald entered the brown soda and scones competitions and Theresa Horgan obtained a first for her caption photo, Learning from Experience.

Kathleen O’Connell won three firsts – traditional fuschia landscape, seascape and animal photographs. Mary Walsh had a first and second with vegetables.

The guild also took a stall at the Cork boat sale in Shanagarry at the August weekend. This was in aid of the ICA charity, Brú Columbanus and was a very successful fund-raiser.

Members were looking forward to the first meeting of the new season on Monday, September 13, to plan the activities for the year ahead.
