Dan’s racer shows up again
Dan’s 11-year-old Be My Allstar wasn’t broken until seven, and she embarked on a point to point racing career over the jumps in 2007.
Success followed in a mares maiden at Dromoland, followed in 2008 by a mares open win in Killaloe, and victory in a mares winner of two race in Carrigtwohill last January. In between came a third place over hurdles at Kilbeggan. Be My Allstar turned over a new leaf this spring, winning the thoroughbred broodmare classes in the agricultural shows at Midleton and at Cork Summer Show last weekend.
A breeding career now beckons for this versatile, showy and athletic mare, but there might be time to fit in a racetrack outing over hurdles, or an entry in the Dublin Horse Show ridden class.
More than 28,000 people are estimated to have come to see the bloodstock and livestock at Cork Summer Show, along with varied events including cookery demos, a craft selling marquee, sheep shearing, a pet show, a farmers’ market, boxing, martial arts, and a wedding marquee, over three days. The show was held at Ballincollig for the second year running.
Winning livestock and bloodstock exhibitors included the following.
