McGuinness claims commercial championship at Cappamore Show
The top prize went to Gareth McGuinness of Drogheda, Co Louth, with the awards for second and third places going to Robert and Mark McGivern, Carrigtwohill, Co Cork.
Cappamore’s reputation as a showcase for quality dairy and beef entries was further enhanced at this year’s show by some 400 entries.
The show committee was headed by chairperson Marie Hayes, and Paddy Ryan in his 50th year as show secretary.
The dairy championship was an all-Limerick affair, with William Walsh of Cloughnadromin Farm, Ballysimon, taking the title, and Donal Neville, Croagh, showing the reserve champion.
Garret Behan, Ballyfin, Portlaoise, Co Laois, continued his successful season in the Simmental rings by taking the overall beef championship. Gareth McGuinness won the reserve rosette.
Dr Michael Sheahan, Grange, Kilmallock, Co Limerick, brought off a double by winning the Charolais and Aberdeen Angus championships.
The champion young horse was shown by Michael and Rachel Lyons, Birdhill, Co Tipperary, with Sheelagh Barry, Ennis, Co Clare, showing the reserve champion.
