Fair price for EU milk production
Consumers can already buy their certified Fair Milk in Austria, reassured that the farmers it came from were paid enough to meet their production costs.
The European Milk Board (EMB), representing dairy farmers across the EU, now plans to put Fair Milk on sale across Europe.
Already, handicrafts, coffee, cocoa, sugar, tea, bananas, honey, cotton, wine, fresh fruit and flowers from developing countries are marketed globally to consumers in favour of a fair price and social and environmental standards.
The EMB’s Fair Milk initiative follows their recent strike action in continental countries in protest at rising production costs and higher EU milk quotas.
* The group was critical of the European Commission’s latest decision to reinstate export subsidies and review intervention, warning that market rivals may react by increasing import duties. EMB called instead for a more flexible setting of milk quotas, to control supply.
