Great views a bonus with west Cork holding

OWNING a rocky but beautiful chunk of west Cork is possible this month with the private treaty sale of a piece of hungry ground at Balteen near Goleen.

With 45 acres and an old stone ruin, the rough-grazing farm has breathtaking views, says Carmel O’Regan of SWS Property Services Bantry. These take in Dunmanus Bay to the Sheeps Head Peninsula and Beara beyond, she says.

The old ruin and some 12 acres of the holding are now sale agreed, which means there’s just 33 acres of the property left to sell.

Some persistence, (and subsistence sheep-farming) could see a new owner blag planning permission on the land.

There’s plenty of road frontage, and the land is set between the road and the sea. It’s only 10 minutes from Goleen and Barleycove and less than 30 minutes from Schull — the heart of west Cork holiday home territory.
