Deere up to 22% of tractor market

JOHN DEERE supplied 939 of the 4,221 new tractors registered in Ireland in 2006, according to the Farm Tractor and Machinery Trade Association (FTMTA).

The 22% market share, up from 19% in 2005, makes John Deere the market leader, ahead of New Holland’s 16%, and Massey Ferguson’s 14%. Other market shares are Zetor with 8%, Case 7%, Landini 6%, Valtra 5%, Same Lamborghini 5%, McCormick 4%, Deutz-Fahr 3%, and “others” 10%.

nMeanwhile, the new FTMTA president, Eamonn Tinney Jnr, said dealer staff training and farm machinery safety are high on his priority list for his term of office.

“We would like to see more people taking part in tractor skills training to provide an awareness of the challenges associated with operating modern tractors safely,” said the Donegal-based machinery dealer.
