Sunnier outlook for cattle farmers
For the second consecutive week, prices quoted by beef processors remained stable, and the actual prices they are willing to pay for stock are also beginning to harden.
Dramatic improvement in the weather after seven weeks of continuous rainfall in some areas which waterlogged farms has also eased the pressure on farmers to sell cattle. With better weather, farmers have turned their attention to farm work rather than selling cattle. Galway’s racing festival week also traditionally reduces the supply of cattle to factories. The market situation also includes the first signs in months of an improved trade for forequarter beef, and there is some price improvement in Britain and on the Continent.
