€1m for forest roads
Already, 74 projects have been funded, at a cost of about €4.7m, since the scheme began in 2002.
Mr Ó Cuív’s department will provide 50% of the funding; the remaining 50% is provided by Coillte.
Coillte has selected roads and bridges for improvement works this year in Cork, Kerry, Leitrim, Roscommon, Clare, Waterford, Mayo, Donegal and Sligo, areas covered by CLÁR, the Government’s programme to tackle depopulation. “The net result is that Coillte can extract timber from forests that otherwise would have been inaccessible” said Coillte chief executive David Gunning.
