Council will collect clean silage wrap until July 3

CORK County Council will continue to collect clean silage wrap at designated sites up to July 3.

Fertiliser bags, netting or baling twine will not be accepted. Persons will be prosecuted for leaving silage wrap outside of the times specified.

Farmers will be asked to produce a herd number, vehicle registration numbers will be recorded.

By bringing their plastic to the designated sites, farmers can avoid the fee of €50 per cubic metre charged for waste plastic disposal by the Irish Farm Film Producers’ Group. However, this fee is halved for farmers who purchase bale wrap film from manufacturers who pre-pay the disposal levy. A six digit code system is being used to verify this at farm level.

Collection sites in Co Cork open from 8.30am to 6pm, according to the following schedule:

McSweeney’s Quarry, Shanlaragh, north of Dunmanway, June 15 and 16;

Bantry Skip Hire, Dunbittern East, Bantry, June 18 and 19;

Kanturk Co-operative Mart Ltd, Percival Street, June 20 and 21;

Rossmore CA Site, Carrigtwohill, June 20 to 22;

Old Pike Quarry, Mallow Road, Mitchelstown, June 25 and 26;

McDonald’s Grain Store, Saleen, June 25 and 26;

Barryroe Co-Op Grain Store, Timoleague, June 26 and 27;

Fermoy Mart, June 27 and 28;

Dairygold Co-Op, Castletownroche July 2 and 3.
