Farm in one or more lots
Paddy started out with the South Western Co-Op in 1959 as a ‘bull-man’ in their AI services division, where Denis also worked, and their distinguished colleagues include ex-Agriculture Minster Joe Walsh; Philip Lynch, Chief Executive of One51 Plc, one of Ireland’s best-known businessmen, and Kieran Calnan, chief executive officer of SWS Group.
Paddy and Denis worked together in setting up the SWS farm accounting division until Paddy retired in 1990 and went into auctioneering. This time round they are teaming up for one of the bigger farm sales of the year so far in Co Cork.
The 127 acres farm, guide priced at €2.5 million, can be sold in the entire or in lots, say the joint agents.
It has some excellent pasture ground, has a not unattractive farmhouse which, while in need of attention, appears to be sound.
There are seven acres of wet, overgrown ground on the northern end of the farm, but that’s the only real waste land in the entire holding.
The amount of road frontage is described as ‘unreal’. The farm is also bounded by a stream. With some excellent pasture on the higher land the farm has a gently sloping south-south-westerly aspect. Mr Murray says it is well-drained and sound. It has been let for a few years and was very well taken care of, he says. This is an executor sale by private treaty for the estate of the late Humphrey McSweeney.
Parts of the land are after tillage and beet, but the best pasture land has remained untouched. It is laid out in old-style fields. Outhouses include one particularly good quality stone building.
Lot 1, the southern tip of the farm, is 22 acres. Lot 2, the three-bed dwelling house and 10 acres could make it suitable for the hobby farming set, well situated within a 30 minute commute of Cork city. Lot 3 is 32 acres with road frontage on two sides. Lot 4 is 25 acres, again with frontage on two sides. Lot 5 is 16.5 acres of the best of the pasture land, similar to Lot 6, which is 13 acres.
The rough per acre guide price is €20,000.
