Clare dairy herd proves champion class

A 60-COW dairy herd from Co Clare is the 2006 champion herd in the Limerick and Clare Friesian breeders’ club awards.

The herd of Michael and John Moroney, Drumcliffe, Ennis, topped a record entry of 37 herds.

But it was the Elite Winter Class runner-up to the Drumcliffe herd, the “Lisnalty” herd of James, Paul and John Hannon at Crecora, Co Limerick, which took a record number of individual honours, including champion cow, champion heifer in milk, Cow Family reserve champion, Best Elite Winter Class Cow, and Best Elite Winter Class heifer. Top award for milk protein content went to the herd of Henry and Declan Flynn, Knocksouna, Kilmallock, averaging 3.58%.
