TEAGASC has reminder livestock farmers to be especially vigilant over the next few days if weather conditions deteriorate.

Pat Boyle, Director of Advisory Services in Teagasc, said young and pregnant animals are most at risk. Farmers should consider housing stock. “Where this is not possible livestock should be moved to dryer, more sheltered fields on farms,” he said.

Mr Boyle said additional feeding may be required as extreme cold conditions will put more demands on the energy requirements of all stock.
