John Dillon is to lead the 85,000 member Irish Farmers Association for a second two-year term beginning in January.

There were no other contenders for the position when nominations closed at noon yesterday. Mr Dillon, from Pallasgreen, Co Limerick, is also vice-president of COPA, the committee of agriculture organisations in the EU.

Also re-elected unopposed were deputy president Ruairi Deasy and vice presidents Brendan O’Mahony (Connacht), Donal Kelly (Munster), Matt Merrick (south Leinster) and Eugene Sherry (north Leinster-Ulster).
