Fund boost for Irish Draught horses

Irish Draught horses, enjoying a resurgence in the market place, have been further boosted by €5,000 funding from the RDS Foundation, towards a breed preservation plan.

Michael Duffy, Chief Executive of the RDS, said the funding will enable the Irish Cattle Breeding Federation (ICBF) to conduct a study of the kinship patterns of the Irish Draught herd.

Ronnie Kavanagh, Chairman, Irish Draught Horse Society, said American buyers, in particular, are now looking for horses like this year’s Champion ID mare at the Dublin Horse Show, a three year old owned by Co Galway farmer Patrick Hoare, purchased and exported to the US.
