Shell’s plans to bring gas ashore at Erris, Co Mayo have run into opposition from local landowners and their supporters, about 200 of whom staged a protest march at Rossport on Good Friday.

Shell intends to build a pipeline from Broadhaven Bay across the fields of local farmers, to carry offshore gas from the Atlantic to a bogland site nine kilometres inland, where they plan to build a processing terminal.

The Good Friday walk began on the farm of William Corduff, one of the local farmers who is challenging Compulsory Acquisition Orders in the High Court, and fighting for continued access to their land.
