FEARS have arisen that many young farmers are among the 50% of all applicants to the Single Payment National Reserve who will not be eligible for any extra entitlements.

Last April, Macra na Feirme warned that a distinct category of young farmers faced severe and permanent income cuts in the transition to decoupled Single Payments.

“While some of the farmers have applied to the National Reserve under the investment category or in the new entrant category, many will fall between the two categories,” warned Macra national president Thomas Honner.
