Gibbons is new ICOS president
He defeated outgoing president Donal Cashman, Whites Cross, Co Cork, the former IFA president, who had sought a second two-year term in office.
Mr Gibbons, who has served as chairman of the ICOS rural development committee, thanked Mr Cashman for his tireless efforts on behalf of the society and co-ops.
The new president looks forward to working with the ICOS board and management under director general John Tyrrell in representing and lobbying on behalf of co-ops at a time of major challenge and change.
