Star four year old discovered
A gelding by U Dermus, out of a Voltaire mare, this 165cms grey has an impressive CV, having won at the Munster Championships and Fáilte Ireland Dublin Horse Show, where it was the Mr Springfield Four Year Old National Championship runner-up.
Charlie’s Royal, a 16.3hh bay gelding, was ridden to second by Michael Buckley. Bred by Charles Patterson, Co Laois, it is by Garrison Royal out of Garrison Girl and is owned by Sean Buckley, Cappoquin, Co Waterford.
Kilderry Venture was judged best in the Young Irelander loose-lunging competition for three-year-olds. By Newmarket Venture, this 16.1hh black female is out of Kilderry Clover, a daughter of the great Clover Hill. She is owned and bred by James Mangan, Milltown, Co Kerry.
Second place went to Baloubet West, a stallion owned by Show Jumping Association of Ireland Chairman Charles Hanley. By Olympic champion Baloubet, he is out of a dam sired by Rebel II Z, who is by the Holsteiner stallion Ramiro. Baloubet West qualified for the loose-lunging competition at this year’s Dublin Horse Show and stands at the Claremorris Horse Breeding Centre, Co Mayo. This year, he has had 50 coverings.
Third place went to a coloured colt son of The Traveller, the coloured stallion that endeared himself to the crowd in the Young Irelander a number of years ago. Owned by Willie McDonnell, this un-named 16.3hh horse is out of Susie Clover, by Clover Hill.
On Sunday, Ballinclover Boy won the prestigious Boomerang Finder Championship. By Ballinvella, he was bred by Michael Courtney, Faha, Co Killarney.
