Milk intake falls by 3.4%

DOMESTIC milk intake by Irish creameries and pasteurisers was estimated as 188.9 million litres for February 2005 by the central Statistics Office.

This was 3.4% below the corresponding 2004 figure.

Comparing the February 2005 milk produce figures with those for February 2004 shows that total milk sold for human consumption decreased by 2.4% to 40.4m litres. Butter production was up 36.6% to 5,600 tonnes.
