LARGE supermarkets will have had their day in 20 years time, Lord Christopher Haskins, the former chairman of Northern Foods, predicted at a conference in Dublin yesterday.

He said that 30 to 40 years ago companies had to be large to afford the capital and complicated technology required. But now small businesses can access the money and the technology to run their businesses.

Lord Haskins, an advisor to the British government, said the large supermarkets are very good at property, and will still own it in 20 years time.
