Only 80 co-op staff to transfer
The near €1 billion a year turnover co-op confirmed this yesterday when it announced that its head office move to the Airport Business Park will take place from Monday next as scheduled.
It also announced that it is to establish a new business support centre for back-office operations in what is known as the Borden’s Building in the co-op’s complex in Mallow.
About 40 of the people who were originally scheduled to move to the Airport Business Park from Mitchelstown and Mallow will now be accommodated in the new Mallow centre.
It will be the location for a number of functions including payroll, accounts payable, billing, central switchboard and supplier and travel administration.
Dairygold further confirmed that it will accelerate the development of plans for the establishment of its permanent head office in Mallow.
This will be located close to the existing 4Home operation, which the society plans to develop, so as to have it built and ready for occupation within three years.
Dairygold’s management teams responsible for milk processing, consumer foods and agri-trading divisions are not involved in the move.
These divisions will continue to operate close to their respective manufacturing activities, with the dairy and consumer foods offices remaining in Mitchelstown and the agri-trading offices in Mallow.
There has been a furious reaction in both Mitchelstown and Mallow to the proposed transfer of 120 office and administration staff to the Airport Business Park and public calls have been made on the co-op to change the decision.
Dairygold later stressed that the move to the Cork Airport Business Park would not be permanent and that it was working on plans to develop new purpose built offices on a site around its 4Home store in Mallow, to be ready to move back to within the next three years.
