Guilds ‘on their bikes’ to cut cholesterol
Everyone was offered ‘finger prick’ cholesterol tests free of charge.
The result of these tests indicated if you needed to take action regarding your cholesterol level.
Sarah Keogh, Consultant Dietician gave an illustrated talk on cholesterol and what causes the levels to rise.
She made many people think and hopefully, be more aware of what they are eating, as heart disease is still the greatest killer in Ireland today. She said that Benecol offers a range of great tasting products which help people reduce their cholesterol level, thus helping them on the way to having a healthy heart. Many of these products, all of which contain the cholesterol lowering ingredient, Plant Stanol Ester, were available for people to take home and try out. These included, spreads, low fat bio yogurts, yogurt drinks and light cream cheese style spreads.
Margaret Moran, Home Economist was on hand with a beautiful display of the many mouth watering dishes which she had created using the Benecol products. She gave many tips on incorporating cholesterol lowering products to produce lovely dishes such as these and also provide recipes. Then followed a question and answer session in which the two experts replied to the many queries from the audience.
After low-fat refreshments, everyone got a questionnaire to fill out, on heart health, the names from which went into a hat in a draw for a mountain bike. The lucky winner was Betty Crowley of Tower Guild, who, incidentally, is no stranger to winning. It seems that some time in the recent past she won a car.
