Heifer’s death raises fears of new form of cattle polio in UK

A MYSTERIOUS brain condition which paralysed and killed a heifer is being investigated in the UK.

In what is described by veterinary experts as a type of cattle polio, white material in the heifer’s brain was affected and the cow died after suffering paralysis for five to six days.

A spokesman from the Department for Environment and Rural Affairs said: “The Veterinary Laboratories Agency have recorded possibly a new condition in cattle in the UK,” he said.
