LEADERS of the €28 million Irish shellfish industry are seeking a more dynamic approach by the Government to protect and develop indigenous shellfish production, jobs and exports.

The Irish Shellfish Association called for a more active policy approach by the Department of Communications, Marine and Natural Resources.

It wants to ensure the future sustainability of shellfish seed supply, continual review of consumer safety issues, more funding for coastal infrastructure and better support for shellfish exports, both fresh and processed.
