Young farmers do battle for awards

THE national final of the FBD Young Farmer of Future Awards will be held next Monday and Tuesday in Tinahely, Co Wicklow.

Thirty-one young farmers will attend an intensive interview with a panel of judges. A short list of six finalists will be selected. The overall winner will receive a travel bursary worth €2,500 and €1,000 spending money.

Specially commissioned trophies will also be presented for first, second and third place. Each county winner will receive €100 and a commemorative trophy.

The judges in the competition, run by Macra na Feirme in conjunction with the IFA, will seek innovation in farm business management; efficiency in farming; farm safety; environmental protection awareness; agricultural knowledge and community involvement among the finalists.
