Demographic and lifestyle changes are driving growth in the sector across Europe, with Britain at the forefront of the expansion. Cheese is a popular ingredient across a wide range of prepared convenience foods.

The IDB acquisition of the Meadow Cheese Group, a cheese ingredient supplier to the British prepared convenience foods sector, is subject to completion of due diligence and legal formalities.

Meadow Cheese, which has state of the art facilities in a 50,000 sq ft complex located on a five-acre site in Ledbury, had a turnover of around €33m in 2002.

The IDB has already established a leading presence in this cheese market sector through its Adams Food Ingredients subsidiary.

It is a leading supplier to the British retail and food service sectors through Kerrygold and North Downs Dairy.
