The herd, based at Friarstown, Crecora, Co Limerick was founded by well known livestock breeder Jimmy Hannan, and the tradition of high class breeding is now being continued by his son, Paul, with the purchase of Canadian blood further boosting the standard.

The Lisnalty cows won the overall 2004 Herd of the Year award, winning the Elite Class with the highest points for an individual herd. Lisnalty Lee Impala was judged the Best Heifer, and Lisnalty Baby 11 was judged the best cow. The herd also won the James Hull Award for the best cow family (Sunray); and the Hamish Logan Award for the Champion Heifer in Milk, with Lisnalty Lee Impala.
