Firm trade at larger mart sales
There was a big increase in cattle numbers at Fermoy Mart yesterday where there was a very strong trade with prices showing improvement.
Forward single punched bullocks sold for up to €340 over €/kg and lighter weights with both premia available made up to €430 over. Some heavy double punched bullocks sold for up to €205 over. Up to €170 over was paid for the quality butchers heifers while store heifers sold for up to €145 over.
At Kanturk mart the forward single punched bullocks sold for up to €265 over and up to €350 over was paid for lighter animals with clean ears.
Heavy heifers made €150 over and stores sold from €80 to €100 over.
A bigger entry of cattle at Athenry Mart saw a very strong trade. The trade was particularly strong for quality stock with the tops of the single punched bullocks selling for up to a whopping €475 over €/kg the price being paid for a 610kg Charolais bullock sold for €1,085.
The trade for the double punched bullocks was also strong ranging €160 over to €250 over. A top price of €245 over was paid for a 410kg Charolais sold for €655 with other lots making up to €220 over.
Ennis Mart had one of the largest entries of the season for the weekly weanling sale with 1,400 head on offer. Continental weanling bulls were slightly dearer.
The choice lots made €380 to €430 over €/kg. More average run of continental weanlings sold back to €325 over.
Some quality heifers made €200 over with the general run of prices from €120 over to €150.
