ICSA general secretary Eddie Punch said, “There are many reports of good land making up to €200 per acre, although the average is closer to €150. It seems that farmers are being very optimistic due to current strong demand for beef. Farmers must remember that leases and rented ground can be discarded and the entitlements stacked, subject to retaining a minimum of 50% of the ground farmed in the reference years. For many farmers, this may be the wisest course,” said Mr Punch.
