Major Christmas tree crop expected

A BUMPER Christmas tree harvest is currently underway due to excellent growing and favourable harvesting conditions.

It is expected that some 800,000 trees will be produced this year by Irish growers, just under half of which is destined for Britain, France and Germany.

Joe Flynn, chairman, Irish Christmas Tree Growers, said that real Irish Christmas trees are environmentally friendly, since they can be recycled, and that the land used for growing them can be replanted or returned to traditional agricultural practices.
