Bid to end live export refunds opposed

Ireland: The Irish Cattle and Sheep Farmers Association has urged Agriculture Minister Mary Coughlan to immediately oppose a Danish move to end live export refunds.

Suckler Committee chairman Frank Kehoe said the live export trade is a vital component of the wellbeing of rural communities. “Problems that have arisen with third country exports to the Lebanon must be addressed and corrected, but should not be confused with live exports to the continent.”

Mr Kehoe said Ms Coughlan must be firm and uncompromising with the tiny band of zealots whose real agenda is to turn the population of the globe into vegetarians.
